Online Politics

I recently came across an article in the New York Times, "Here’s the Online Line on Online Politics" by Robert Levine, that describes a new site that focuses on online politics. This site wich is located at http://techpresident.com/ is like a group blog for politics. Levine states, Unlike most politics sites, techpresident.com will be the online equivalent of a trade magazine, aimed at political professionals who need to keep up with the Internet and technology executives involved in creating the tools they use." This quotation illustrates that even individuals involved in politics feel it is necessary to communicate through the internet.

On this site, the users can
  • View images and videos of the campaign
  • generate content on the blogs
  • promotes social networking

I thought that this was interesting because educators could use this site in their class. For instance, students must take a class title Participation in Government. What would be a better way to get students involved with politics than having them post on this site and communicate with candidates. This will allow students to voice their opinions, enhance writing skills, and communicate with others.

In Friedman's book, he discussed that the politics profession is using technology to enhance campaigns. This just supports the fact that the world is moving toward technological communication.

Hi!

I think that this website and example that you have shared with us is exactly what Will Richardson was discussing in his pod-cast presentation. Even though learning expands beyond the four walls of a classroom now more than ever, students are excited to use these tools and see such videos in classrooms. It is unbelievable how many resources are becoming available and how most of us have the ability to access them.

Thanks for sharing this site with us! I enjoyed it.

hello,

I agree with kris' connection with the Will Richards pod cast. I think it also shows how every one is uploading, to get there ideas across. What struck me as interesting is the link to each politicians, Myspace page. This gives voters a chance to see the people that they are voting a little more intimately.

I think this site is very interesting, especially for those types of classes you listed. I took an AP government and politics class in high school, and this type of website would have come in handy! thanks for the info!

What an interesting website. I know in high school it is something that you have to learn in your government class and sometimes it's hard for a teacher to really make politics interesting. This would be great to use in the classroom to get students interested and interacting at the same time. Maybe as furture teachers we can educate our co-workers to use technology to their benefit.
