Quiz 2: Warlick Site

Ok I’m not going to lie I really like the site yahooligans. The address is www.yahooligans.com. This is a really fun and informative site! This could really be a great site to integrate into the classroom. During class discussions and in other articles we’ve read and discussed, we have talked about using technology as a tool to reach out to kids. We have to learn to combine the things that they are interested in to make learning fun. This site can definitely do this!

When you first get on this site, you can watch movies, listen to music, and send ecards. Now these are fun things that can teach kids to use the internet. Another more informative part of this site is the news section. If you click on “news” on the bottom of the page, it will take you to another page that allows you to choose from different types of news topics. You can choose from animals, science, sports, entertainment, and top stories. By having this component to the website, kids can use the internet to stay linked to current events. Isn’t this something that educators try to get students to do? If reading the newspaper is boring, kids can do it online.

Another “educational” component to this site is the “ask Earl” section. You can ask Earl a question, or you can search the questions that were already asked to find out information. In addition, there is a reference section where you can either use an Encyclopedia or a Dictionary to look up answers!

This site combines work and play into one very fun site! Check it out!

hey bridget --
that sounds really neat. in history class, i always had to do current events. i clipped articles from the newspaper, but sometimes had trouble finding something if my teacher wanted a specific topic. It seems like yahooligans would help students be more on top of current events, and would also be more inclined to read about current events since it is easy to access...although i do enjoy actually looking through the paper itself.
good resource to know about, thanks.

I agree that this site sounds pretty kewl. I agree with Staci's comment about how it could help out kids with current events and stuff like that.. to branch off of that thought, it may not only help students find information but to LIKE to find information! Good find!

What an awesome site. I just went on it, and it looks really approachable for students. It's extremely interactive; I would definitely suggest this to adolescents. Thanks for introducing this website.

Students will be much more willing to find a current event if they can easily find an event that they like. Sites like this make it easier than browsing through a newspaper because they can search for a particular topic of interest to them.

Thanks for telling me about this site!

That website sounds like a great one. I feel like it could be used both inside and outside of the classroom. It would be pretty neat if once a week as a teacher get your students to a computer lab or the library and have them get onto that website and have them pick a topic they are interested in and learn more about it in a way they are comfortable with. This way it is not a formal classroom setting, they can enjoy themselves and being on the internet while learning. Also, maybe this way students would really enjoy being in class and look forward to going to class. A simple website as this can really bring in your students.
